Experience Japan - Kyoto's Must Eat Tendon - Tensyu 天周

After walking around Kyoto tourist spots, we decided to have something special for our lunch. As we are the extreme tempura lovers, we found a much recommended tempura shop at Kyoto – Tensyu 天冨良天周 while planning our Japan trip. It is a place you shouldn't miss in Kyoto if you are tempura lovers like us!

There is an English Menu ifor tourists who don't understand the Japanese menu, so you don’t have to worry about choosing your best meal of the day! Tensyu offers star eels tendon set and shrimp tendon set during lunch hours ranged from 1100 yen onwards. If you come during dinner, there will be other dinner sets from 5000 yen and above.

The line was long! We queued for nearly an hour before got ourselves into the shop. Fortunately, queuing is a Zen in Japan as people queue in proper and in a polite way. 

It’s a small but compact shop, it can accommodate up to 20-30 people at a time. You can experience the “live orchestra” of frying and dipping in the process of making tempura.

You won’t find it hot and greasy in here even the chefs are frying the tempura right in front of you. 

We ordered the Kakiage Tendon (Vegetable and Shrimp) 1600 yen and Shrimp Tendon 1900 yen. Definitely worth the price when you look at the size and portion of the meal, I can’t even finish one set of that.

The tempuras were too tasty to resist! They were dipped into the special made shoyu before served. It is definitely the most satisfying meal you can ever get in Kyoto, Japan.I felt sinful right after Tendon lunch, wondering how many calories I had taken into.

It is very easy to reach Tensyu via Kyoto bus (another op: you can commute with their subway). You just need to drop off at Gion Shijo station and walk across the street to reach their shop.
